As prescribed by state standards, our Health
Environmentalists conduct routine inspections of all food service establishments located within the county. This includes restaurants, cafeterias, retail food markets, convenience-type stores, bed and breakfasts, concession stands, and food booths operating at various county festivals and events. Public swimming facilities, schools, motels, mobile home and RV parks, septic tank cleaning vehicles, and the county's state prison are also routinely inspected. Environmentalists also investigate complaints concerning the above operations. |
|
Our Health Environmentalists are certified inspectors for the
on-site sewage program. They conduct site evaluations for residential / business sub surface sewage disposal systems, provide technical assistance during system installation and perform final inspections of completed systems. Certified inspectors also perform existing system evaluations and provide recommendations regarding repairs. |
|
Boyle County joined the growing number of counties in
Kentucky to require food safety training to be mandatory for all food service managers / handlers. Our goal is to help assure that all such individuals have the basic knowledge needed to provide the safest possible food products for the public. Our local Environmentalists are charged with conducting food safety training classes and certifying those who qualify. Certification is valid for two years. |
|
The Health Department provides yearly food
safety training for the county's food service establishments.
The department has also been designated by the state as a
regional training center for providing continuing education units to certified installers of sub-surface sewage disposal systems. Environmentalists also welcome requests from schools, civic groups, and other local organizations to discuss any of the above programs or other environmental health issues. |
|
The Boyle County Health Department coordinates with other
local agencies, individuals and veterinarians to provide yearly, at various locations throughout the county, low cost rabies vaccination clinics for dogs and cats. All reported animal bites are investigated by the Health Environmentalist to determine the appropriate actions such as animal quarantine, laboratory analysis, or referral to private physicians. |
|
The Health Department collects private water samples from
cisterns, springs, wells and other sources for bacteriological / lead analysis in our state laboratory. |
|
Radon test kits are available at no cost to residents of Boyle
County. Kits are easy to use, prepackaged in postage paid self-mailer envelopes for convenience. Kits may be obtained during normal business hours at the health department. Radon awareness presentations are available to interested groups or organizations. Call for information. |
|
The health department investigates various nuisance complaints
to determine potential health risks. The health department also coordinates with other local and state agencies to provide free rat bait during the fall and winter months. |
|
Environmentalists review plans for public buildings and
provide technical assistance to those individuals submitting plans on routinely inspected facilities such as restaurants and swimming pools. |
